Manchester Rangers coaches have been working closely with Network Rail and PDF Sports LTD to deliver vital safety education to children across East Manchester, Tameside and Trafford as part of the Rail Life Tackling Track Safety Project.

The Tackling Track Safety Project was devised by PDF Sports LTD as an effective and fun way of delivering the important Rail Safety messages to children across the country by incorporating them into a sporting environment. The project consists of an assembly which outlines the dangers of the railway and ways to ensure safety, followed by 5 activity sessions focused on Year 6 Primary and Year 9 at Secondary schools. The KS2 children all receive a Rail Life work booklet and over the next 5weeks show what they have learnt during the activity sessions by answering multiple choice questions in their work booklet.

Ranger’s coaches have been delivering the project in primary and secondary schools in Manchester and the wider area from the beginning of 2015. Manchester Rangers Community Development Officer Matt Valentine believes the project has been a huge success, saying “it has been great incorporating the rail safety messages into our rugby league activity sessions. It has shown how sport can be used as a very useful tool for the education of young people, I am certain that the lessons learnt during the last six weeks will stay with the children throughout their lives
